Birmingham to East Sussex

Need to get myself there as cheaply as possibly using, groan, public transport.

Need to do it on Saturday. Any ideas as it seems the big coach companies don't go there..?

Best plan so far is £15 coach to Luton then petrol money for a friend to drive me there. But that isn't going well as his spare diesel car has just failed it's MOT so we would have to take his petrol car which struggles to manage 26mpg!

Bit of a rambling post but the basics are there, so PH massif please help me get from Birmingham to Heathfield, Sussex!

Heathfield's no more than a village in the middle of nowhere.

Train to Uckfield then a bus I think.

Get the lift and stomach a few £££ on petrol methinks.

Are you going back the same day? If so hiring a cheap economical car could be an option.

I paid £52 for the train from Birmingham NEC to crowborough one way. I expect this is one of the two or three closest stations others being Tunbridge Wells or Uckfield.

pre-book your train ticket, tends to be a lot cheaper. as does buying single tickets.
turn up on the day and the price is way way more often double. Also depending on train line, pre-booking often means 1st class is similarly priced.

Ha No! Not really, just off to collect a new addition to the fleet.

Thanks for the trainline link. Tried it and it works out at being £50+, which is about the same as it would cost me to go by coach and then get a lift but far less comfortable!
