If he could get near the rear of the vehicle, then he could have walked down to the gold and started handing bars back...

Or he could have simply run the engine at full chat until the fuel was used up.

Why not just let it fall, then pick it up at the bottom. Granted you'd need some specialist cutting gear, and a landrover or 3 to haul it back up. Assuming the cliff isnt above a crocodile infested river like in the cartoons of course!

If they have no fuel - how are they going to transport the gold ?
Stand at the side of the road with a pile of ingots and flag down the first passing mafioso ?
