Now I know many fine recruitment consultants and agents but there are some real knobs out there. What really gets up my nose are those idiots who cold call you and say they are a headhunter for xyz and are interested in speaking to you. Usually they know absolutley jack about what you do, how long you've been doing it and so on.

Calling yourself a headhunter does not massage my ego. I'm an IT Consultant, not a flippin Chief Executive. Stop trying to pretend to be something you're not and shove your blue sky helicopter headhunting bks up your arse.

And relax.

You're an "IT Consultant" and you're having a pop at them for using daft phrases?

oh the irony

I agree with OP. But I'm a bit calmer about it.

Executive Search is the correct term now.

You'll know a good executive search guy because you wont know he's found you until after he's spoken to you a few times.

Yes they usually pause for effect after saying "Head hunter". It's quite comical. And yes most of them know less about the sector than I do. When they start pumping me for information I usually tell them I will need to make a charge for the information and this brings the intrusion to a rapid conclusion.
