What happened to John Thain?

Here's a I guy I considered to be one of the most energetic and intelligent people on wall street, and recently he's been caught up in these childish charades: asking for his $10 mil bonus when his company is in shambles and the economy is reeling, paying bonuses to others in Dec '08 instead of during the traditional time in Jan. because this year they'd be part of BOA by Jan 1, and spending a million dollars of company money on his office just after they wrote down 12 billion in assets.

Needless to say, based on theses stories, I'm disappointed that one of the seemingly good guys turned out to be so selfish.

Lots of optics ...surprisingly bad results from Merrill, and small stuff like spending a fortune on his new office. Its scary in Manhattan these days and nobody is safe.
I agree that he is one of the brightest...no doubt.
