Used to think he was blinding, but he's repeated/recycled so much of his stuff now, I wonder just how long it's taken him to put together a stage show and just how sharp he actually is.

Only really seen him on Mock the Week and a bit of stand-up on youtube and have to say whilst he's proper funny, it's all recylced material from his stand-up routine, as is Russell Howard.

Worth a watch though!

Yeah, here in Edinburgh year before last. Don't get me wrong, it WAS good - excellent in fact. But I've seen very little from him since that wasn't in that show.

Seen him live. Pretty disappointing to be honest. Most of the stuff I'd heard before (on Mock the Week) and his delivery was poor. It felt like his heart wasn't in it. I'd almost go so far as saying that his warm-up guy was better.

I think I prefer comedians who can tell stories rather than delivery one-liner after one-liner, so maybe this is why I didn't enjoy it so much.

He is pretty good, very funny on Mock the Week but most of the joke were repeated in his live DVD, not a patch on Michael McIntyre IMO and I saw Jason Manford on Live at the Apollo recently and his 20 minutes on there were brilliant.

Its Frankie Boyle's ability to deliver 'the killer punch' on MTW which is why hes so funny. When your watching him on TV it appears that he just churns out off-the-cuff hilarities constantly.

When hes on a stage there is no context and nobody else to help create a back story. He just makes things up himself and his 'bombshell' on-liner just looses its effect.

I too saw his DVD recently and if you've seen all episodes of MTW then you've heard his entire act. Which is a bit $hit really.

The only genuinely funny bits are when he interacts with the audience.

Also saw Jimmy Carr live last november and it was tedious, again the funny bits were when he got the audience involved.

[flamesuit] IMO just a shouty sweary scottish bloke, who treads a thin line sometimes [/flamesuit]

There's far better out there, quite often surrounding him on Mock the Week.

Some of his lines on MTW have had me crying with laughter - particularly the "watching the hanging of Saddam and wondering whether there was anything on the internet I won't masterbate to..." rofl

Yes, he is slipt your sides hilarious, however as it's been said all his jokes are rehashed from MTW.
On his DVD though he starts off by insulting the audience. Says to one bloke "fk me, what happened there? Looks like someone shaved a monkey and kicked it through TopMan".

+1 Frankie Boyle's show was really disappointing, as I've seen just about every episode of Mock the Week ever, and so had heard most of his material already. The rest of it was just Jimmy Carr-esque one-liners.

However, Russell Howard must have been working on new material, as the set he did on Live at the Apollo the other week was almost all new. And actually very funny, as was Ed Byrne. smile

Found Bill Bailey's Tinselworm surprisingly disappointing, though. frown

I saw Phil Jupitus in Guildford a few years ago and he was superb. His routine about a fear of spiders had me literally crying with laughter.

We went to see him last year in Salisbury. Every single joke was a repeat from Mock the Week. His warm up guy was brilliant though.

Dara Ó Briain was brilliant live. It didn't seem like he'd actually planned anything, he was just asking the audience questions and reacting to them. I wouldn't hesitate to see him again.
