Leaving Dogs Outside Supermarkets

Just read the post about the Border Collie being stolen and killed.

As a dog lover (more specifically a Jack Russell lover) I'm somewhat puzzled as to why people take their dogs to the supermarket and leave them outside? Surely its inviting trouble? I went to my local Tesco store the other day and tied up outside was the most delectable Jack Russell you've ever seen.....I almost wanted to stay outside to make sure he came to no harm!

Just begs the question to me, why the need to take them to the shops just to leave them outside?

Maybe the chap who had his dog taken and killed the other day had realised he needs bread/milk whatever while he was out for a walk. Its not uncommon for people to pop into their local shops while walking dogs, leaving them tied up outside. So maybe this is the chaps 'Local shop.'

I live very close to where this happened, and can say the supermarket is on a route known locally as the 'greenway' it is apparently somewhere safe for cyclists/walkers/horse riders ect to do their thing, without the fear of traffic. (although the fear of chavs still remains, on the darker sections anyway)

Walk to supermarket, take dog, buy pint of milk and loaf of bread, or cigarettes and lottery ticket.

They might have left the dog outside for no more than 5 minutes and lived 1/4 mile away. I understand what you're saying, especially in this society of lawlessness that we seem to be descending to, but the chances of the dog being stolen are pretty slim.

So someone goes down the shop,leaves their dog outside whilst they pop in to get a few things, the dog gets stolen and you ask why take the dog out in the first place? WTF is the world coming to!

Well people love cars but they don't leave the keys in the door while they nip in the shop for a few bits.. so why leave a dog in the same position?

Most people would feel like they had lost part of their family if this were to happen to their pet, and no amount of insurance cover would change that. Where as it is the only aspect you appear to be concerned with. Which is why I came to the conclusion that you had never owned a pet. It appears I was wrong and you are just a heartless, emotion starved individual who takes out his frustrations on a tortoise.

OK I suppose people tie in going to the shops with walking the dog...I kind of forgot about....my 2 jacks get the run of the farm all day long so I never have to 'walk' them as such.

But even if I did, I wouldn't leave them tied up anywhere where I couldn't see them. And its nothing to do with their value in £££. Its to do with the fact that dogs become part of the family and to lose them and not know whats happened to them would be devastating.

No way, i bet Wilson is worth far more.

I do Well I did with my previous 2 cars, where I lived I never locked it, no need, when I went somewhere I would lock it, but not having a fob, i had a tendency of forgetting about the keys in the door. Several times someone popped into work, to hand me my keys back, infact I once went out for a game of golf with a mate, being avid golfists

Arrived in car park, get out, open rear door, put my shoes on, got my golf bats out the boot, mate turned up, shut the car up checked my balls, walked into the club house, went out and played 9...Walking back to club house...car keys, where are my car keys....ah in my golfist sack. Get back to car, open sack up....no keys in there....no keys...st where are my keys, damn it!!!! going to have to walk the whole course to find them, turned around looked through window...sighed, opened the car door, left them in the ignition

Did the same again but left them in the door. But now I am alright, I have a fob so I can lock it and not leave my keys in there


on topic now, its a sad state of affairs when you cant even take your dog down the shops anymore and safely leave him/her outside,

Well , You see what you have there is not a dog at all . we all know ""Boxers"" are not dogs they are thought of as additional members of the family,

a great family pet who instictively knows when something is up

you can probably tell I grew up with Boxers both Red & White ...
