Shropshire - Recommendations

I had to go up on business to Shrewsbury last week and this is the first time I'd been to that part of the world.

It seemed to me to be an ideal place to take higher management away for a long weekend as a surprise. Can anyone suggest places to visit and / or driving routes pls

Nah - bit of sad old git these days. It's just a part of the country I'm not familiar with / hadn't been to before so any help appreciated so I can start the research

What sort of things you looking to do?

Plenty of Walking/Hiking to do in the Shropshire Hills, Church Stretton being the heart of it. Theres also the second highest golf course in England (I think) and a Gliding Club, all within a few miles.

Bridgnorth is cool , or plenty of museums to visit

I would recommend that too, as well as Bridgnorth (being from there originally).

Ludlow has good food markets, a nice castle, is picturesque. Roads to & from it are pretty good fun.
Church Stretton has a nice deli that sells delicious sandwiches. The gliding club is good fun to watch or take part in if you book ahead.

Out towards that way there are some fabulous roads, especially towards Crossgates (fav biker road , good done v early morning 5-6am), Newtown, Lake Bala, any road that way is good.

I recall the Motor museum shut under a financial cloud some years ago?

Severn Valley Steam Railway down to from B/NorthBewdley? They have a geat cliff railway and some decent pubs.

Try the Ironbridge Gorge Museum at Blistshill in Telford. Victorian high street complete with a pub, working forge, old beam engines etc. They have about 5 museums in the set all within 2 or 3 miles.

Ludlow, eat at one of the Michelin restaurants (book 2 or 3 months ahead for lunch I recall but excellent), pop up to the Long Mynd near Stetton?

Do Banks' brewery in Wolverhampton still do the tours?

There was also a hotel with a large victorian folley of caves in the park north of Telford near Hodnet caled something like Hawksworth Park?

I am not sure iof it is stil open but there was a rather unique pub on the hill near Blistshill called the 'All Nations'. Made spit and sawdust look like shagpile carpet and rose petals but brewed their own beer in the back yard. Only served their own ale, port and lemon for the ladies and KitKats but after 3 pints you couldn't stand up. The family who had brewed for years retired but I think the son still goes back to brew for them.

Theres been a couple more Michelin stars for Ludlow this week I believe.

Yup, the Mynd is a must if your in the area, and best of all you can drive up it!

Blistshill in Telford and just around the corner in Ironbridge is the, errr Iron Bridge

Some nice pubs there some doing very good food.
I can recomend the coalbrookdale inn for very good food. Also the Shakespear Inn although this is usualy booked up.
