Hypocrisy of hotels "enviromental concern"

So,
check into a well know group of hotels yesterday around 3pm, walk in the room and the TV is on the "welcome to" menu showing the options
Check in available from 12, so TV has most likely been on for at least 3 hours
Walk in to the bathroom, and as predicted to the wife there is the vomit inducing "help us to save the environment (read: "our cash") by placing any towels you are happy to re use on the towel rail
Absolute bloody cheek!

The best one was a ECO hotel in Brazil, I caught the staff flushing hundreds of tropical fish down the drain as they wanted to empty a pond. When I asked them what they were doing they told me to ask the manager. I went to his office, he suddenly understood nothing and when we went back outside all the staff who were doing the flushing had hidden themselves away.
Had some repugnant cold caller asking for email addresses 'to update their database' the other day.
I told them I'd confirm what they had, but will not volunteer anything.
Their response, genuinely, was that if I didn't , they'd have to write rather than email and as such I would have contributed to killing the pla....
It seems I hung up at that point.

I don't see a problem with that myself, hotels get the stuff machine washed using detergents and wasting water IMHO.
Hell, we take home half our recycling in the suitcases too....... I've gone through customs hoping they'd want to look in the case, to find cans and empty bags of crisps...
