No job, nice day tomorrow..pheasant shooting!!

A large congrats to my cousin.

I have no spare cash, doing everything i can to keep head above the water and support my 3 year old son.

And then................................

My cousin rings out of the blue, and invites me on a days pheasnat shooting.

Cant wait....and, if i get up in time, i shall be going to procure some venison early doors.

Sleep well everyone, i cant wait until the moring.

Best thing that has happened in months.

Oh, and if all goes well, and anyone near MK fancies a haunch of venison, please let me know- it may cost a pint, but more than happy to share.

Ok,times are tough, you`ve lost your job etc etc, do you really have to go out and shoot something? Its not like the pheasant has done anything to annoy you. Dont see the point in killing birds/animals for fun.

Doesn't sound like you shoot much (if at all) so I'm sure most of the birds will appreciate your presence.
It is birds you're shooting at isn't it ? If you manage to hit owt, put me down for a Venison Fillet and a leg of lamb.

Definitely not a vegetarian, but I dont see the point in killing an animal for pleasure or as a way of passing the afternoon. I understand that an animal died so I could have dinner this evening, but I am very far removed from that process. Just cannot understand why anyone wold go out and do something like that to pass the time.

Everyone is entitled to there own opinion, and the veggie remark was merely a p take!!
Personally I think that if people eat meat, they should be prepared to kill it themselves if necessary.
You can be sure that the pheasants shot tomorrow will have been far better looked after than the majority of chickens you buy from the supermarket!

Because the taste is far superior to clay pigeon...?
Maybe though its because its a test of skill, a social event, a chance to dress up, a more honest way of putting food on the table and a TRADITION.
So next time you're slurping and burping your way through a KFC, take a moment to think of how that 'bird' existed, how it was dispatched then mechanically prepared, stored in a blast chiller before being lovingly prepared by immigrant workers on minimum wage who give less than one fk, then compare that to the life cycle of a country pheasant.

Just because something is a tradition it doesnt make it right. We as a society have moved on and dont have to be hunter gatherers anymore. The OP has stated that he is now unemployed, would he not be better off looking for a job than killing a defenceless bird or animal. Where exactley do you think your food comes from?
I think you will find that the op said that if he gets there early enough he will have time to try to get some venison first,ie he will have time for a stalk before the days shooting commences.

And it is a valued opinion. Wrong. But valued nonetheless. Sorry about the KFC insult though. It was the first 'Dead Bird in a Bap' image that came to mind.
You though, and the 'Society' you belong to, may buy its dubious meat in cling-wrapped polystyrene, unquestioningly I would guess too......
I buy from or trade with smallholders and shoot my own game. My morning egg will still be warm when I collect it. But unlike yourself I guess I haven't moved on though eh ?
I suppose you would prefer the OP shoots at something that CAN defend itself ? A tiger, perhaps, or Sasquatch ?
I concur with you on his countryside knowledge though, definate KFC/MSG/BBC/ overdose....
