Help! Dental Advice!
Discussion
I've broken the corner off a tooth (that is already heavily filled) and its cutting my tongue.
I can't get a dentist (private or NHS) for love nor money in Sheffield - helpfully my family dentist who did the work (and an amazing job too - its not their fault I've got teeth with the structural integrity of play dough) can see me this morning, but its a 4hr journey.
Can anyone suggest a) what I can do to further prevent damage or b) where I can find a dentist in Sheffield who will take on private or NHS patients ASAP.
It doesn't hurt (don't think there is much nerve left to be honest!) but I'm concerned that it will get damaged further and as its already had a shed load of cash thrown at it, I am not losing the bugger.
Thank you
(oh and I can't receive emails at the moment either as can't access email from work

Thanks chaps!
I have found a private practice that had some NHS places left (number given to me by someone at work) They are going to be as mad as hell as they couldn't get in on the NHS.
Do have to wait until Thurs
Until then I'm on liquids only.
Ok, so can anyone suggest how I can stop it ripping my tongue to shreds? I can't drink without horrific pain and blood shed

You could have gone to the Charles Clifford and let them practice on you there.....I have found a private practice that had some NHS places left (number given to me by someone at work) They are going to be as mad as hell as they couldn't get in on the NHS.

Most places the size of Sheffield will have an Emergency Dental clinic somewhere. But you have to pay a fixed rate for a check and any work performed iirc.
You have probably already searched but just in case ....
a quick search offers the following ;
http://www.sheffieldpct.nhs.uk/services/2-4.php
A little too vague for my liking but may be useful.

Would have been great if it didn't need some major fixing!
No symptoms at all, but it's cutting your tongue to ribbons? It'll be a proper tongue magnet too! You've got an appointment on Thursday to get it looked at?
If that's the case, then the best thing to do is to take the sharp edge off with a nail file or emery board. You won't do any harm if you're careful.

Thanks for that GordonL - Its cutting my tongue to utter shreds. Rather painful and I'm a bit fed up of constantly tasting blood.
I still have the bit of tooth that fell off, and the urge to stick it back on is overwhelming!
Have very gently smoothed the edge but only to get rid of the point. Roll on 2.40 tomorrow (I turned down the 2.30 appointment as I didn't want to give the tooth any ideas
)
Thanks for the help

Thanks very much - just gave them a call and made an appointment to see them on the NHS!!!
They did however say they only have funding until the first of april!
Then they "have a bridge to cross" - basically they need to see if their funding is extended.
But i've at least got an appointment for then!
Cheers

It sounds like you have found the dentist you need, but, for anybody else, in Northampton we have an NHS Dental Access Centre (DAC) which will provide emergency care for people who aren't registered with a dentist. I know, because my wife is senior dental nurse there. Possibly you have something similar in Sheffield? Mind you, they only have a limited number of appointments each day.
