Apparently, they may not be that good for you:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7852168.stm

And there was me thinking they were low in fat and packed with vitamins and minerals.

In another report from the Department of The Bleedin' Obvious, due out next week, "smoking might give you a bit of a cough", "having unprotected sex may make your knob fall off" and "drinking alcohol could possibly get you drunk".

I was wondering why my kebab-only diet wasn't having much of an effect.

"Some 35% of doners contained a different meat than advertised"

At my local, you need to pay more for a mixed meet kebab.

If you ask what the meat is, they usually look at you like you're stupid and reply, "Kebab meat, of course."

Because "chicken" meat costs more than "lamb."

Plus why are we wasting time with these sorts of studies confused

If it's a lamb's leg up there, how can it contain different meat????

By mixed meat kebab they mean lamb and chicken. I'd imagine the discrepancy found by research relates to maggots and rat meat

rofl

When was the last time you saw an actual leg on a spit. It's basically 5 year old dog-meat grade left overs minced up into a nice paste, congealed into a roll of unidentifiable crap, edible only by piss-heads.

But they are SO damn edible

I'd imagine the chicken ones to be good for you, Marinated chicken breast, with salad and yoghurt. I was a lot thinner than I am now when I was eating them most days, then I started working at a place with really nice cooked breakfasts...

1100 calories, that's more than I thought anyway.

That's about the same as 2 quarter pounders and cheese.

I did work experience at a kebab shop (long story, don't ask) where they actually made the doner themselves, indeed I even had the pleasure of making one and to be honest it was all pretty good stuff.
All the peppers, mushroom, onion et cetera was bought fresh from the local grocers and the meat (minced and sliced lamb) was surprisingly lean.

Of course, hardly anywhere bothers doing that anymore, they just buy the whole "leg" in and fknose what's in that.

Surely one of those Doner things flies in the face of basic food hygiene? It gets hot, it cools down and so on...

And even a proper one is made by layering slices of marinated amb on a skewer - it was never a whole leg roast.
