What I want to know is why was it built and more importantly how?

I mean how on earth do you build a concrete walkway 1000 feet or whatever up on the middle of a cliff face, especially since it looks like it was build a fair old time ago.

It was finished in 1905, and was built for workers inspecting the hydroelectric plants, they needed a way of crossing the falls.

I live not far from there and went last year, it's quite spectacular and you're not actually allowed to walk along it anymore (some mean looking guards made sure you didn't try) but there were some "serious" climber types scaling the walls!
