Any cunning tricks to get cheap flights to Oz?
Discussion
Hi all,
The gf is thinking of visiting friends near Perth in March for probably 4 weeks, any tips/places on getting a nice cheap flight deal? Is the old mid-week flight being cheaper than the weekend still valid (been ages since I've done a long haul).
Also any insurance suggestions as she's recovering from breast cancer which apparently makes getting insurance a bit tricky.
Cheers,
Rob

ring people up rather than booking on the web, you will often get a better deal that way. Other than that it's the obvious, flights early in the week aren't popular with business travelers, flights at strange times tend to be less popular. But talk to the likes and trailfinders etc and see what you can find. (If flying economy I'd break the journey somewhere and have a night's sleep, it's a long journey in economy hell).

Qantas is doing special deals at the moment, as are all airlines
Economy is not the most comfortable experience in the world, but it is doable. I've done it and I'm pretty tall.
I flew Etihad and rate them pretty well.
Economy aint too bad, i did singapore and that was reasonable, tho that was with malaysia airlines and they are better than most.Economy is not the most comfortable experience in the world, but it is doable. I've done it and I'm pretty tall.

Yeah, Malaysian are good. Used them to Malaysia, funnily enough.
For the price Etihad are amongst the best. For Sydney-London they are priced just above the bottom feeders like China Air (2 night stay in Shanghai and a less than perfect safety record) and well below Singapore etc etc. I think my return ticket, bought 2 weeks before I left, was around the 1000 pound mark in peak season. Close to 600 quid cheaper than Singapore/Malaysian
