Whilst answering a telephone call today, I had great difficulty in hearing the person phoning me. At first I thought it might be the telephone line or even my telephone, but the next telephone call I received, indicated that it was neither of these, but that I had lost the hearing in one of my ears (left), for when the other ear was used, the person’s voice speaking was very loud.

So what might be wrong, can this be corrected and what are the implications.

1) Did you fall asleep on the sofa last night?

2) Do you have small children?

3) Have they lost any Lego?

If your reply to all of the above is yes, then you have your answer.

Usually the cute nurse's hands. Disgusting job. They hold that "kidney bowl" thing that's kidney shaped but never had a kidney in it in it's existence up to your ear and blast away with an enormous syringe. Unfortunately this is like trying to fill a dog-bowl with a firehose. Icky-splash.

And chunks of ear wax go everywhere, her hands, the floor, the towel they kindly wrap around your shoulders.

Blurgh.

Well. You did ask.

If its wax you need to put some warm olive oil in your ear each night for a week before to make sure its soft. Then you get a nice squelching sound everytime you move your jaw.

And by warm I dont mean hot, dont go warming it up in the frying pan...

How old fashioned are you?

These days they have a natty little pump device type thing that shoots warm water down your ear and gently knocks the wax out.
