Random question - getting rid of a piano!

Ok, open to ideas - I have an old Piano (upright and needs a good tune, but otherwise OK), but would like to get rid of it.

Any ideas where to start? Family and friends don't want it. Local charities don't want it for free. Even offered 50 quid to one to take it away and they refused.

Where / who / what would you do to get rid of a Piano...?

Ebay or Local schools or talk to your nearest instrument shop and see if they've had any enquiries from people wanting a cheap piano.

I had the same problem, local piano dealer wanted £80 to take it away. So I put it on Ebay, buyer collects. I was hoping for £20 or something max, got £280!!!!! Winner!

It was nothing special and also needed a damn good tune, so it's worth a go.

look into freecycle if you just want shot.. you'll be giving it away for free and as far as I know, the "buyer" collects

Mrs R5's dad is a specialist removal man (Grand pianos etc) they skip around 10 uprights a week, nobody wants them at all.

Stick it on ebay with a 100 quid or so reserve, and it'll go

Tried that one.

They would only take it if, now get this, that we paid for it for to be fully tuned, tested and that we organised delivery to the school - with an proper Piano mover, not some bloke in a van.

Otherwise they would not be interested. A quick price up on all of that meant a bonfire was the best option.

Phone the council. They take stuff away for around £25 (well they do in Poole)

do you have a community day centre around you? they may take it.

or a local pub or working mans club?

Have you got any local private schools? Check to see if they have a newletter that goes out to parents and stick an ad in there - plenty of kids having piano lessons and parents needing pianos.

Also ring round a few piano tuners/teachers and ask them to put the word out. You might be best off just asking for 50 quid to cover transportation.

Then there's the usual stuff, local paper, ad in the supermarket, etc.

Real pianos are so much better than clavinova type things IMHO, they just don't sound or feel right.

Given the throw-away society that we live in today, it seems such a shame to break up something like a piano. I will try anything so that its not just broken up and trashed.

Looks like local free ads and websites are the best bet. Thanks guys.
