Work Outing Ideas - the Stranger the Better

In these skint times keeping our staff motivated is more important than ever. Shooting the boss in the face with a paintball gun or beating his flabby ass around the track karting is fun, but getting tedious.

We are not into the 'Team Building' bks, just a change from the office and the opportunity to have something to talk / argue about over a pint afterwards.

Are there any new, fun and / or odd suggestions out there in PH land would be appreciated. Suggestions in and around south Manchester please cos we cant be arsed travelling far.

So far I only have Go Ape in Buxton. Anything else?

Hire a bus. Tell them it's a "mystery tour" and dish out an envelope to everyone. Drive to a Jobcentre and announce their P45s are in the envelopes.

We did one with a bunch of middle aged female civvies, therefore couldn't do anything physical - went to a paint your own crockery place. Everyone picked a name out of a hat in order to choose who's mug you were going to paint. Much hilarity when mugs exchanged. Middle aged women went home; the rest of us got on it.

I once went to a “corporate do day out” at a Somerset farm, where the farmer had turned the barn into a licensed restaurant, the same being situated at the top of a valley/hill.

In the valley there were various opportunities to both try and be tutored in a country sport, these consisting of fly fishing, crossbow shooting, clay pigeon shooting, hand guns, bow and arrow shooting etc. etc. It was possibly the best free day out I have ever had, an experience that I would never have even thought of paying for myself.

gliding has always struck me as a good one. a mate goes fairly regularly with his work, based in manc.

or how about caving? if you can get someone to guide you, the devils' arse showcave in buxton is the way in to one of the longest cave complexes in the country. plus the access to the caves is via a huge slide that dumps out into the underground river, worth it for that alone!

Mini motos round a kart track? They're a good because most people won't have had a go on one before and it levels the playing field a little. Also you can push each other off them.

You can get a days Hanggliding taster.
Although it only involves running down a shallow hill and trying desperately to take off it is infinitely more fun than it sounds.
I can't really sell it very well because it sounds st but it isnt.Its good.

I think a kart track in manchester does, or used to do, Formula 1 pitstops. They have an old F1 car, you get overalls etc. and a bit of training, and have to do a full 4 wheel change and (I guess simulated) fuelling, and you try to get the best time. This really appeals to me - it's probably far more "team building" than karting or paintballing, or getting drunk and fighting!

THat sounds like the worst outing in the world.
If I worked for a company who said "We are going to take you on a day out for a treat. What you will do is learn to change a wheel and put petrol in a car with some basic mechanics thrown in" I would simply say
"No, of course not. THat sounds st. If I had wanted to be a YTS mechanic then I would have lived in a council house and failed to learn anything at school. YOu must be out of your mind"
