Raul, brother of Fidel Castro, now Presidente due to Fidel's ill health, has flown into Moscow for the week.
Cuba was propped-up in the last few years by Chavez of Venezuela while the petro dollar was high. Now from $150 a barrel to $35, Chavez is a spent force.

I have a feeling Cuba and the U.S. are due for a reconciliation of sorts. There is so much money in the Cuban-American community that the ties would be great for us both if things were opened up. So many U.S. states do business with Cuba independently that I feel it is going to happen sooner than later. Nooo, the old crusties are a spent force in Cuba. Raul will be gone in the next 5 or so years and they'll get on with being a normal left wing sort of place. They'll probably always indulge in a bit of goofing around wiht Russia, but don't see it getting taken seriously as a threat to America until they get bored of chasing the Arabs.

Cubans in America are extremely anti-Castyro. They are also a viable political force. I feel that Cuba will reconcile with the U.S. either through Raul or a successor and Cuban expatriates will introduce Capitalism in a huge way back into the place. We aren't and never have been. Put the Guardian down for a second and look at reality. Castro nationalized American owned businesses, we retaliated by creating an economic embargo. Cuba has massive oil reserves but hasn’t got the ability to get at any of it. I can’t believe they’d let the American operators in so it looks like it may be the Russians. (I’ve been keeping a keen eye on this as a few years in Cuba would suit me down to the ground )
My money had been on either the Italians (ENI/Saipem) or the French (TFE/Technip/Doris) but we’ll see.
