uranus is about 6 inches from your venus.

It's not close to the moon though. You need to remember that these objects are very far away, the moon is relatively close to us. To an observer on Earth the relative 'distance' between the moon and Venus for example changes vastly.

ETA: Venus is not the North star.

It's lovely isn't it. The other week, Mars and Venus were sat just below the moon, fantastic to see with the naked eye, and makes me wish I had a telescope.

Costco had a Meade jobbie not long ago with one of them magic find stuff in the sky by pointing it thingies. Someone can probably translate that into something more useful.
