where is the cheapest country to live?

now that the pound is crap vs a lot of countries where is the cheapest place to live / buy goods from? Is there anywhere where you can still get by on 50p a day / buy bargains etc? Is the pound great against any particular currencies?

Laos is the cheapest place I've been. Cost about US$2.50 for a hotel. Food wasn't as cheap as Paraguay by all accounts! Though I could have been a bit more adventurous with eating bugs and stuff to save a Kip or two.

I live in Oslo, god knows how London is above us on Mercers list there.

I've been told to come over at the end of February and I've got my shopping list ready.

I guess my standard of living index is a bit different as it revolves around DVD box sets from HMV, new trainers and snow board stuff.

I lived in the Philippines for nearly ten years, but I never realised just how cheap it was until I moved back to the UK.
Petrol was 18p a litre in 2002.

A San Miguel beer was 15p, and a bottle of Tanduay rum (remarkably mellow and drinkable) was about £1.50

Bribing a copper was £2, for speeding, about £50 for murder, apparently.....
