Recommend me a hotel in the Bath area...

Hi can anyone recommend me a nice hotel in the Bath area please? Looking for a spring break for me and my missus, think she would like somewhere with spa/massage facilities and a pool as well.

Any suggestions welcome...

Manor House, Castle Combe.

Lovely old manor house, in pretty village of Castle Coombe. And of course there's a circuit just up the road... Hotel restaurant, Bybrook, has just received a Michelin star. Also a good golf course on site if that's your thing.

OH and I like to stop here for a relaxing night (or two) after visiting relatives in Wales and before heading to Heathrow to fly home. Stayed three times now and enjoyed it every time.

Main thing it lacks (from memory) is a spa - so may not quite fit what you want.

Lucknam Park near Castle Combe is another cracking hotel. One of the best I've stayed at.

Good location - have stayed there a few times and always enjoyed it. I see there's some refurbishment going on in Feb, that's the only thing to watch.

Seconded it's fab (and has a spa too). I convinced the Mrs we were staying at a B&B so it was great to turn onto the 1/2 driveway of Lucknam Park... The restaurant is fantastic too.

"The Bath Priory will be closing for refurbishment on the 2nd February 2009 and will reopen on the 16th March 2009. The Spa will remain closed and will reopen in the summer months. Our reception will remain open during the 6 week closure for enquiries and reservations as normal."

Bath Spa Hotel?

Don't know how important it is to you to be in Bath, but Castle Combe, while lovely, isn't THAT close - you wouldn't want to be getting a taxi back there from Bath of an evening, for example...

The one in Bradford on Avon looks very nice - it's pretty much opposite my parents' house! And from the outside you certainly wouldn't know it was a hotel; I had no idea what its grounds looked like, and I lived opposite for 13 years... Bradford on Avon's great - very picturesque and historical (the town bridge still has the original 18th century jail cell on it for instance), and not too far from Bath itself (about half as far as Castle Combe).

This place is really good, about 8 miles south of Bath. It's a bit of a celeb hang out but the facilities are great.

Fact of the day: Whatley Manor is in the hamlet of ttley, near Malmesbury. It was originally called ttley Manor, but when it was turned into a hotel, they couldn't bring themselves to call it ttley Manor so changed the name. Not a lot of people know that.
