If you take and ordinary torch into a dark room you can illuminate the areas you point the torch at.
Would it be possible to create a dark torch so you could point a beam of darkness at areas in a lit room ?
Does dark have a speed ?
Is the speed of dark faster than the speed of light ?
Dark is the natural state for everything and even light does not show up in darkness until you put some matter in the way to catch the light so is it possible to shine a beam of dark in a room full of light and have it show up on some matter placed in the way ?
Sorry, all the planes/helicopters spaceships headlights got me on this.

Yes, but you'd need a magical way of creating light that was directly out of phase with the light in the room. It would then destructively interfere with the light and leave dark.
So the answer theoretically is yes, with another light, but we don't have the technology to create the right kind of light.

ummm. no.
just thinking about it, darkness is an absence of light, and you can see when there is a light sorce. but in theory, the darkness is always there, just been pushed back with the light source (you can only see where you point the torch)
light comes from heat (not always but bulbs and the sun is hot) BUT even if you cool down the air somewere to absolute 0 it still has light.
no you cant.

I see the word MAGICAL, so then no. :PSo the answer theoretically is yes, with another light, but we don't have the technology to create the right kind of light.
hmmmm, are you thinking along the lines of if you get a sound, and then match frequency and ect.ect. (making the sine wave form match exactally or complete oposite i forget) its not as loud?
dont think light works on the same sort of way. but I could be wrong.

This has a thought provoking message no matter how you believe. Does evil exist?
The university professor challenged his students with this question. Did God create everything that exists?
A student bravely replied yes, he did!"
"God created everything?" The professor asked.
"Yes, sir," the student replied.
The professor answered, "If God created everything, then God created evil since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are then God is evil."
The student became quiet before such an answer.
The professor was quite pleased with himself and boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.
Another student raised his hand and said, "Can I ask you a question professor?" "Of course", replied the professor. The student stood up and asked, "Professor, does cold exist?"
"What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you never been cold?" The students snickered at the young man's question.
The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat. Everybody and every object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (- 460 degrees F) is the total absence of heat; all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have too little heat.
The student continued. "Professor, does darkness exist?"
The professor responded, "Of course it does".
The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact we can use Newton's prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present."
Finally the young man asked the professor. "Sir, does evil exist?"
Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course as I have already said. We see it every day. It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. "These manifestations are nothing else but evil."
To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is not like faith, or love, that exist just as does light and heat. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light."
The professor sat down.

Not quite 100% sure, but I don't think you can "cancel" light using opposite wave forms as there is an actually thing that is light. With sound, it is merely a compression wave in a medium which can be cancel with it's exact opposite. Two light waves/particles can't do that. You just get more light.

umm, how is evil an absence of god?
I wouldnt say that, I would say that evil is mearly an act that society has deemed evil from [yes i know I said i dont agreed but] the teaching of god and what normal folk think is wrong. so evil is just doing something that is not constructive to the race in a whole and that good is constructive, there is no evil in the animal world [ok you can get cats and dogs that you 'think' are but they are not] they are just different. certain wild animal kill for fun and they are not considered evil but if people do it they are considered evil.
no i am not evil, thats just purly from a theoretical stand point lol

Possible with colour, not with light.
Same thing mate
.Light from an incandescent type filament (lets avoid the bulb v.s. lamp argument) is just a range of wave lengths which makes it appear white(ish).
Mix red and green paint, you will get brown. Mix red and green light, you will get yellow.
White paint is white because it reflects a full spectrum of light, making it appear white - shine a red torch on your white wall, the wall wont look white, as it is only reflecting the red part of the spectrum.
Red light is red because it emits a wavelength in the red range of the spectrum. Red paint is red (under a white light) because it absorbs everything but red light, which it reflects.

Of course it is
But worth a post anyway

It's sort of been done. The military has developed a technique (using a type of laser) for stopping the vibration of electrons (this is what reflects light from an object) so that the object is completely black.
