How to stop the harassment and abuse from Intrum Justia?

I'm starting to get really fed up with these bunch of crooks chasing me for an alleged debt of £40 over 18months from a paypal dispute that was wrongly decided against me.

They're abusive, rude and arrogant and i find it unbelievable that a company can operate in such an aggressive manner.

Over the years i've had literally millions of calls. They start off by asking to speak to Mr X, i ask whose calling only to get told that because of data protection that can't tell me who they are?!?! Wtf! At this point the receiver usually goes down.

I ask them to suppply me details of the alleged debt (via telephone and mail) only for them to tell me they can't do that because of 'data protection'. I write letters only to be told that they only acknowledge receipt of recorded mail. I send recorded, no acknowledgement of receipt! The manner of the calls really gets of my fing tits, the time i have wasted would have been better spent speaking to the wall. I've received letters from solicitors threatening legal action, but lo and behold this action never happens!

As far as i can see this whole area of debt recovery is being conducted by a group of threatening bullies and i can honestly see how so many get duped into paying when 1) they don't have to and 2) in many cases there's no proof of debt! I do breathe a sign of relief though that this is only $40 because the amount of time and harassment they've put into chasing me for such an inconsequential amount is unbelievable. I truely feel sorry for those who have been bullied into paying when they dont have to.

This industry needs some serious regulation because their strong arm intimidating tactics must be making the buisness owners very wealthy indeed.

How can i get these fk wits off my back once and fall all, i've tried everything apart from paying but i meant as well be dealing with retarded monkeys.

As you lost the dispute you owe the money.

Debt collectors are generally very aggressive in my experience. Goes with the territory.

I understood that harrasment over debt was illegal? Start keeping a diary.

Is there a court judgement against you though?

You do realise that it wont be £40 they are collecting but their own fees as well. You may well be looking at hundreds

Do you owe 40 quid, or not? If you do, I'm with the debt collectors.

That's crap. If they cannot provide the details of the debt, and proof that they are legally entitled to chase you for it, then they can't do anything.

You need to send them a letter, via recorded delivery, telling them in capitals at the top that you don't acknowledge any debt to them. Then request details of the debt, and details of their legal right to collect on it, and then tell them that the clock is ticking and if you don't receive these details, within a cetain amount of time, then you will assume the matter is closed. Tell them that telephone communication is not welcome, and if they persist in harassing you without proof then you will have no alternative but to take the matter further. It also may be an idea to ask for details of their Data Controller.

And, DO NOT sign the letter.

Intrum are a royal pain in the rear, I had trouble with them years ago, and finally told them that I had paid more than the debt was originally for, and if they wanted another penny out of me, then they were to take me to court, never heard another squeack out of them.

We have 2 posts on PH at the moment... One guy is owed tens of thousands by a friend... personally, I'd get these chaps to head round and 'collect' the cash.

Tell them to issue a summons and prove the debt in court.

If they haven't got a court order for recovery of the £40 then tell them to fk off! That's what I'd be doing.

Next time they call and ask to speak to you, ask them to hold the line. Check back in an hour to see if they are still there.

Do this every time they call. There is no point winding yourself up about it, but it is really hard.

Seconded.

You may also want to start charging them your legal consultancy fees.

All this time must be adding up.

If you do this, write to them and list your fees to deal with any further unjustified calls, visits or letters from any party on this matter. Send this recorded delivery.

Small claims them.

If they are a limited company and they don't pay up you can now claim that they are trading while insolvent on the basis that they cannot pay their debts.

If they aren't then you can send someone elses to balif them.

By the way, the simplest way to end this may be to pay up. You'd need to ask for a written statement of all the debt including any costs. If the total isn't too high pay it with a recorded delivery letter stating that you do not accept the debt but wish to settle it in order to avoid further inconvenience. You may want legal advice on the wording.

You might want to take a look around www.pepipoo.co.uk (or is it .com - I can never remember. Take a look at theprivate parking thread and follow it until you come to the bit about The Administration of Justice Act 1970.

This means you can have them arrested for it - Police won't want to co-operate but apparently if you persist with a complaint they have to follow it up.

Would love to see some of these scum get a taste of their own! Keep us informed how you get on.

.

From the orginal post it would appear the forty quid debt has been decided by paypal, and on the balance of probabilities paypal will be wrong.

Why not start sending letters charging for your time, if they carry on persisting invest the alleged debt in filing a small claims.

If i owed the £40 i would pay it, thought it was pretty self evident from the topic that i don't....
the whole issue surrounds a dispute with paypal for goods allegedly not received. Their dispute process is quite frankly a joke and the company as a whole are a bunch of tossers. Go back 2 years and i sold a boiler pump for £40, but due to the weight me and the buyer agreed to save on postage costs and that i was to send it 2nd class standard parcels service (an untracked service). Buyer claims goods were never received so a dispute ensues. Paypal decides against me as their dispute process is founded on the principle of no tracking number, no proof of postage, therefore you can't have sent the goods and you are liable to reimburse the buyer. The fact is i did send the goods and had a receipt of proof of postage (not a tracking number). I sent this to paypal but they still decided in the buyers favor!! I spoken to them countless times via email, phone, mail and everytime the response is that their must be a tracking number! Quite ridiculous tbh because the agreement was never between me and paypal, rather me and the buyer so i fail to see how they can impose terms on an agreement where they are simply a third party. What pisses me off most with paypal though is that throughout this by claiming that i owe the money there is a strong implication that i am a theif and a liar (they refuse to accept that goods were either lost or received and that this situation is solely my fault) which i certainly am not. The whole situation is way beyond a joke and how two major companies can be so incompetent is beyond belief. The fact that i've got 350+ postive feedback at 100% and have done sold serveral things for 1,000's makes no odds.

Either pay the debt or ignore them completely, if ever (and I doubt it will) a summons arrives through your door then you can defend the claim.

No point stressing in the mean time.
