Britain's Secret Nuclear Landmines
Discussion

Back in the Cold War, some brown-overalled, pipe-smoking British boffins planned to bury massive nuclear landmines in Germany to blow any advancing Soviet horde to kingdom-come. Along with half of Germany, of course.
They planned to stop the landmines' clockwork timers from freezing in winter by installing chicken cages over them.
They called it 'Blue Peacock'.
I don't know what was in those pipes that boffins smoked in the 1950's, but it must have been bloody good stuff.

all that would have been needed back in the day would be a big comedy hand sign pointing down saying "do not step here, nuclear landmine in place" and as we all know, everyone has to do the opposite of what a sign says. then BOOM!! you suddenly go 50ft up and 100ft everywhere

Tactical nukes are class. Wasn't there a nuclear artillery shell? Davy Crockett? Or something...
I mean, bloody hell, once you're onto chucking those things about the battlefield then it all changes a bit doesn't it?

Yes, the Davy Crockett and its one very fatal design flaw... it's range was so short, that whoever pressed the fire button would have been caught in the resultant fallout.http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=khyZI3RK2lE
