My lass won tickets to travel business class anywhere in the world except for australia and south africa.
Personally, we both had a preference for somewhere like Bangkok or Phuket, but everywhere she has tried to get, seems to have been fully booked, and apparently she was more or less told that it had to be somewhere in North America (although we've not yet explored the possibility of destinations in Europe, S.America or Africa).
I suggested Florida but she reckoned it would be too expensive. However, I cant imagine New York being cheap either.
Shes now got it into her mind that she wants to go to New York.
Thing is, I'm just not sure. I mean, I know its an impressive city and all that, but considering we were wanting to on some party holiday at a beach somewhere with bars and hot weather, and now it looks like we're just going to some big city somewhere, well, I have to say, my heart is not really in it. My perception is that we wont get great weather, once you've absorbed all the big buildings etc, there wont be much left to do, other than eat and drink in overpriced bars and restaurants, or go shopping, which I loathe. I am not much of a museum person either.
So, assuming (hopefully not) that she has booked it, what is there for people like us to do? I dont particularly wish to spend my hard earned going to a place that I really dont have a huge lot of interest in.
And if she hasnt managed to get it booked, where else would be an alternative? Mexico? Egypt? Cypress? Ibiza? Bearing in mind, we'd be going at the end of May.

fantastic place - absolutely no place like it in the world....truly the city that never sleeps....but sounds more like you'd be happier in Ibiza! Its about exploring, absorbing, accepting the dynamic, diverse, organic, living entity which is the living city - you need to be ready to accept all its glory along with its horrors as an experience....savour every minute.
As opposed to florida - yes, NY is REALLY expensive, and if you go cheap your hotel will be a hole. At the end of May it will be pretty warm - in fact, late spring is one on the nicest times of year there, nice and warm (plenty warm enough for being in a city) without the humidity which can spoil late summer. NYC is great, as is many other large cities, not all of them in the frost belt. Somewhere in northern California? Thanks for all the replies, it has put my mind at rest a bit I will say that, the reason really for the post is because I genuinely didnt know what to expect - I had *assumed* there would be plenty to do, but you never can tell when you know nothing about a place, and I wouldnt want to waste loads of money doing something I didnt enjoy.

Sounds like you're being forced to use tickets which are normally reserved for points redemption. These tend to be extremely scarce. Which airline/alliance are you being told to use? Might be able to help...
