BA connecting flight question.

Apologies for what is probably a dumb question but all the lines at BA customer service are jammed as Britain is collapsing because of a bit of snow.

On Wednesday i am flying from Munich to Heathrow (T5) and then from there onwards to Boston. Both flights are with BA. I booked the Munich - LHR leg myself but the LHR to Boston was booked by some friends as part of a package deal. All i have for the Boston flight is the flight number, my friend has the tickets. I was planning on meeting him in the departure area but without the ticket i presume i wont be able to?

My question is, at what point and how do i arrange for my luggage to be transferred to the Boston flight? My original plan was simply to go through arrivals at LHR and then get in lift to departures.

Is there a simpler way.

Are they paper tickets of "E-Tickets"

The BA checkin should be able to check you in straight through.

the Munich to LHR is a eticket. i think the lhr to boston is paper ticket as its from Iglu. Im waiting to hear back from my mate.

Even a fax or photocopy should be OK as long as your details are on the computer. Going to the US now requires online pre-registration, make sure thats done first.

If it's a paper ticket you will need it with you in order to through check, paper tickets are quite outdated however so I'd be quite surprised. If it does turn out to be an etckt just make sure you mention it at checkin and explain what is going on (try to get a locator for the booking if you can), the bookings won't be linked as booked separately but as long as Munich can see it when they look then they can link them - you can then through check your luggage and you won't even need to come through arrivals at T5, just an airside transfer.

Just got thought to my mate, it is an eticket and going through the manage my booking on Ba.com it works ok.

So, can i book the connecting details online anywhere or do i have to explain at the check in desk at Munich.

Do the online thing but you'll probably have to still fill the forms in on the plane. That's what happened to me when I went to Orlando a couple of weeks ago. They didn't seem to know anything about the new system there!

If the e ticket works OK, can't you check in online for both flights 23h59m in advance of the second flight, and then when you get to the bag drop at your dep point show them all the printed boarding passes, and get them to link the flights and then check your bags all the way through?
