Many of the 'die hards' that have struggled into a virtually empty work place this morning...

...what kind of fun are you going to have getting home tonight? Being stuck in a freezing car tonight will probably feel pretty terrible. And if theres any kind of thaw this afternoon its going to freeze solid later and turn to ice. As soon as theres cars stuck on the main routes, the gritters wont get through and then it will worse.

I'm sure your boss will appreciate your efforts to get in.

I'm heading off at about 11/11.30, and have booked the afternoon off. Did make it in ok with the 928, but don't fancy trying driving home late afternoon since it is supposed to be quite heavy snow later.

I will be happily piloting the Elise (broken heater and all) home this evening in the knowledge that if I get stuck, it's only four miles and I can always walk.

I decided not to go in today despite having a Range Rover. But as it was parked around the corner and thought of either walking 100 yards to it or de icing one of the two cars in the drive and driving round to pick it up was too much, I decided to work from home instead

Yep. I smugly went to get in my 4x4 this morning having not used it for a couple of weeks to find that the fooking drivers door was frozen shut. Once I finally got it open I then found that it wouldn't close again. So I had to leave it open on the drive and take the other car. I was a bit less smug after that.

60 seconds with a hair-dryer would have fixed it - my BMW was the same.

My very non-fancy Skoda Octavia 4x4 doesn't seem to notice the snow. The winter tyres on it probably help too, but I use them cos I get 65k miles out of a set.

Of course, when two or three idiots get it wrong in front of me and block the road I'll be no better off...

What most seem to forget in 4x4s is that the stopping distance in snow is massively increased due to the extra weight.
