Just acquired a Clarion USB enabled head unit and am having some problems - when I put a USB stick into it it shows :"Error 2" which the manual says is something about incorrectly encoded WMA/AAC/MP3 files. I've checked the coding and tried both AAC & MP3 with settings which are in-spec. according to the manual. BUT - the stick does contain other data - does anyone know if the unit would throw the error because of the other files ? (i.e. am I going to have to get dedicated USB sticks for car audio rather using the same one for several purposes ? )

an easy way to check is to copy all the files to pc and try the usb stick with 1 or 2 songs

but yes, sounds like a plausible reason.

that said, i think my (sony) car stereo can only pick the mp3 files on a cd if there is other stuff on there

Try moving the non-MP3 documents into a separate folder and see if it plays MP3s in the root directory.

Thanks for the help guy - have figured it out now. It didn't like my old stick.

It seems to be quite happy with the files anywhere at all (within file name limits) on something that properly supports USB1.1/2.0 data rates,
