Was i in danger?!

After spending the morning indoors i got bored this afternoon so thought i'd go for a little walk across the fields, whilst out i came across these paw prints that have got me puzzled.
They were about 5" long and probably about 4" wide, they were in a single track and about 2' apart.
Any ideas? Should i stay in or is it safe to go out?

I thought it was a dog originally, but i thought dogs would of left sets of prints not just one after the other.

If it was a rabbit then i'd be scared of it, the prints were a good 5 inches in length and about two foot apart! Surely not?

Maybe he was trying to keep his bks from freezing? I know I would have been.

Looks like rabbit - big back paws (the two towards the bottom of each print in your photo) and smaller front paws closer together. The animal hops between prints so you only get one set of tracks rather than the alternating set you might expect with a large mammal. The snow is not deep enough for the rabbit's body to make an impression, or you would get this more characteristic track in snow:
