Construction Site Break-ins

Site we are currently working on has just starting having a bit of trouble with break-ins.

Originally it thought it was kids as they were getting in through boarded up windows & not causing any damage. However, it is now getting to the stage where the houses are being 2nd fixed so the expensive stuff is starting to go in. Last night one of the front doors was kicked down/in & a fair bit of damage done.

Anyone know what the best kind of security would be ?

CCTV would be obvious choice but the development is quite remote so not sure how much use this would be. Other options being power fence (10000 volts), secuirty on site, big dog, etc, etc.

Not had this problem before so not sure the best route to go down.

You obviously aren't using the right security firm. I'll bet that the minute you start using the one run by "Big Ronnie" all your troubles will disappear.

Use floodlights and permanent security guards.

Get decent security guards, dont skimp on payment.

Security guards job is not to stop the burglar, but firstly to be visible to put off burglars and secondly to be on hand to report to the police as or before something occurs.

Hire 5 of these guys or nuke the site from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

We have a similar problem with a site of ours.

Work hasnt started yet, but there is an old pub on the grounds currently that kids keep breaking into.

I'd suggest hiring a nightwatchman. Expensive, but not compared to the cost of the fixings that could be stolen.

I once had to set out the same 150m of road every day for two weeks, as the kids were breaking in every night and knocking down all of the profile boards and kicking out half of the pegs.

That was with a security guard on site. He was replaced soon after.

The site has the normal heras fencing which obviously doesn't stop anyone as its more of a way of keeping people accidentaly walking on site, than stopping people forcing thier way onto site.

Was looking at 24/7 monitored CCTV, which seems to be around £150/week (for hire of kit, etc). This way if anyone triggers a PIR, it sends a message back to monitoring station who can then see exactly what is going on on site & can also speak to the tealeafs over loudspeakers (and inform the local police, etc).

We've had all sorts of suff nicked off our sites but the one that amused me the most was when the portaloo was taken; god that thing stank and was literally full of s*it, I just hope that when they transported it it leaked worse than it did when it was on site

A couple of security companies listed on The Construction Centre website.

Maybe its worth giving them a call and getting their opinion.

Unfortunately, unless you have security personnel physically guarding a site, if the criminals are eager enough they will find a way to break in.
