If you hire a room that belongs to a charity, can you treat the cost as Gift Aid?

No, I believe if you receive anything in return, gift aid cannot be claimed.

Or school fees would be cheaper!

Not really - you are not making a donation - you are buying a service. However, the Revenue seems to be quite flexible in allowing such fees as gift aided donations.

If you can persuade the hall owner to let you use the hall for free but you then make a personal donation they might be able to have the donation gift aided.

Don't forget that only individuals can gift aid donations.
