Where could I find a generic set of definitions for financial services products in line with the topic title? I have been on many sites such as HL, Zurich, Cii etc, yet I can't find a collection of definitions.

I need to conduct some research by this Friday and will need a basic working knowledge of these products not specific to a certain provider. I suspect I have missed an obvious solution but have now started to get frustrated as I am searching the same thing over and over.

How "basic" does this working knowledge have to be?

Well, that I am not 100% sure of. After first interview I have just been called to an assessment for a provider who wanted candidates to have FPC for an un-regulated role with IFA's. They are aware I do not have these and have given me the opportunity to learn what I can over the next four days, in preparation for some technical questioning.

Clearly I have a finite time to learn so I would hope they do not get too involved in IHT issues. However, I will need to know definitions, recent law changes, perhaps charges and how each product links with another.

I will be under pressure as they have given me this chance based upon my sales track record. I convinced them taking exams is the 'easy' part but having empirical evidence of sales success is the hard part. Now I have to make sure I follow through on this!

Some qualified IFA's are not up to speed on this!

I'm not sure where you would find the above info, as suggested the FSA website will be the best bet.

Is this a broker cosultant type role?

Its that type of role yes. Have just found globalinvestor.com to be helpful on the basics but always need to make sure its not out of date. I need to remain aware that the interviewers will know how long I have had and not to over-complicate. It's all to easy to get to in-depth and forget the basics and I will go nuts if I come out of it poorly because of this.

Just be honest with them. They won't expect you have learned the ins & outs in a few days.
Focus on your sales record & the fact that you are willing to learn the technical side & gain FPC.
Whatever you do, don't get carried away & try to bullst your way through the interview.
