I asked a similar question earlier on in the day regarding IT related jobs out there, but didn't get any response.

That just reminds me of the video of a US lead supply convoy that was lead down a dead end, and the Hummers then sped off leaving the drivers to a beating.

I cant do the forces as my hearing is just below the level they require but i still wannt to get out there and do my bit.

and yes i do know bout the stories of that cock up from the amercians that lead a entire unarmed convoy into a ambush and the amercian escort left the drivers to die at the hands of the local militants.

If i went i'd want to be stationed on the base, i'd only be doing it for money as well certainly not just to do my bit, if that was the case i'd be joining the forces, doing my bit for real and killing haji's.

Being a picky bugger i'd want to be out there for 6 months and afterwards use the money to go traveling.

Don't do it.
I have a mate (ex soldier) who is in Iraq, convoy driving.
They are getting blown-up by IEDs and RPGs regularly. There are suicide car-bombers taking-out checkpoints. He is employed by a private contractor and he says that the civvy equipment is substandard - soft-skinned trucks and crappy body armour.
He has sent me a few videos which are scary but interesting.
He's raking-in the money (>£8K per month, IIRC) but there are easier and safer ways to earn a living.

Apparently there is also good money to be earned protecting ships against pirate attacks in the Indian Ocean. Much more fun and any 'evidence' is lost in hundreds of feet of water. wink

+1 out of order mate.

Sounds like you just want to go and be a hero... you will almost certainly end up in trouble... or worse.

whilst i didnt see the comments made about the american convoy incident, i will assume it was fairly abusive and thus edited but to be fair to the original poster, i guess he saw Ross Kemp in Afghanistan and thought "yeah i fancy a bit of that" as many many others will have done so...

to be honest though, companies like KBR rely heavily on ex-Forces personnel and will rarely touch anyone without military experience for these sort of roles as they like to know that when, not if, the st hits the fan, you have a reasonable idea of what to do.

sinple answer is join the TA, one weekend a month is all they ask and and you could be out there within 18 months if you went more often. I dont think that hearing problems will put you out of all available positions, if you really wanted to do your but there are plenty of offices in Bastion wink
