Anyone know what the quickest was of clearing a cheque in dollars to a UK account.

My O/H keep most of her money in the US and brings in some as and when its needed. Problem is the bank always take bout 7 - 8 weeks to complete the transaction. Normally its only a few hundred so the delay doesnt matter but this is for a property purchase so its a fair amount and we'd like a bit more influence on when it comes in.

cheers

The only quick way is to do a 'swift' transfer. Cheques do take weeks as they have to be sent back to the US bank who then transfer the money to the UK bank.

You can do an international-bank transfer I think.

All banks have a unique international banking id used to do such transfers - ask your bank.

This would only be a matter of days..

Probably requires physical presence in a branch of the US bank though. I know it does with Wells Fargo.

Thanks for the replies.

Was hoping that as the cheque was already here there might sort of fast tracking thing we could arrange. Will look into the swift / wire transfer thing.
