Carol Thatcher - Golliwog

Did anyone see this covered on the BBC news last night?

The genius part for me is that the BBC lawyer, Mark Stevens, does actually look like a golliwog.

My wife, myself and 2 friends sat watching this article on the news last night. When he came on we all just spontaneously cracked up. Best laugh we've had in ages.

I've m,et Carol Thatcher, Shes as mad as a box of frogs and comes from the Prince Philip school of tact and diplomacy. She also likes a drink or several.
She should however know better than to make a joke about Golliwogs, particularly in somewhere that has a bit of a left wing reputation like the beeb.

I found the lawyer they used very but the fact they have sacked her speaks volumes for how desperately over sensitive to PC BS we have became in this mixed up country.

If I were her i'd have denied ever saying it..... on the basis that Carol Thatcher would struggle to even say the word "Golliwog".

Tha guy looked absolutely ridiculous. I can imagine the report coming across his desk and he was consumed with bitter memories of having the piss taken out of him his entire life, and carries on his one man campaign to erase the memory of golliwogs.

I wonder what percentage of the population are sitting at home waiting to be offended by something? It seems the vast majority.

I couldn't care less for Carol Thatcher, but I object to the notion that we need to live in this peculiar vacuum sealed society where a private remark has to be policed by sackings and media trials.

It is reported she made a private remark, just as Harry did and as thousands do every day. People are allowed to make private remarks aren't they?

Looking at the tennis players in Australia, none of the black ones looks even remotely like a Gollywog, so who was she referring to?

If she had refered to Adrian Chiles as a useless fat lump of black country lard she would have been in less trouble (and more accurate).

whats wrong with golliwog? my 4 year old has 2 gollywog stufed toys and my dads bike racing team is called golly speed racing, in this age of asians and the like being able to say what they like about us why is it that someone can be sacked for an off air comment?? and jonathon woss only got suspended for a far worse offence.

It's <drum roll> racism, though. She could have st on the floor live on air and it wouldn't be as bad as the holy R. I'm not racist and I'm glad most people have a healthy disregard for overt racism, but the zealousy with which people blow these things out of proportion is frightening. Not to mention in itself extremely intolerant.
