Men's suits - recommendations

I'd appreciate any advice on some decent brands of suits. I need to get a few and would like them to be good quality and look good (i need all the help i can get in that dept too 
)
thinking about brands like chester barry, YSL
any suggestions - also stockists in/around manchester would be very helpful

I know you'll take the piss but Col needed a suit for a Do we were going to. We went to Selfridges in Brum and he tried on a whole load of designer suits. Wasn't really happy with any of them. Ended up getting one from the Italian Collection at M&S. It looked and still does look awesome
The problem with buying many designer brands is that they sell suits complete, rather than jacket and trousers. I always like to get two pairs of trousers, as fidgeting around in the car/at my desk means trousers wear out far faster than the jacket.
For that reason I would recommend M&S as they have a great range of prices and styles (and you get can two pairs of trousers)!

How many specifically?
Are you fat, average or slim?
What colours do you prefer or syles? plain, squares, pin stripe etc
Where are you going to be wearing these suits? Office, out and about etc?
How far are you willing to travel for suits?
All these questions are releavant and fairly important if you are not going down the bespoke route.

not sure - £200-£300??
would a suit of that price range be any good?
considering i want / need 4-5 suits, i'd rather not be looking at forking out several grand. i may have to do this in stages
of course, if i could get suits that are worth more than that on special or at factory outlets etc, that would be ideal.

+1Got a suit and a dinner suit from them, impressed by the quality, fit and how comfortable they are to wear. The suit was about £350 with 2 pairs of trousers.
I've worn high street suits from £100 - £500, and nothings come close in terms of fit and how well they wear. The experience had by myself and friends of M&S suits is that they wear out so quickly - I bought one about a year ago, and in 8 months had worn through 2 pairs of trousers.
And its nice to have a suit made for you, with your own little touches.
A lot of recommendations so far for M&S and I will add to that. Their suits have received a lot of praise in the fashion press as well for quality.
Couple this with the fact that they are a large chain - so easy to find one and get back to it if you need to - and they must be worth a look.
As mentioned above you can buy jacket and trousers as separates so can get a 1 + 2 set up. This is also useful if you are an unusual shape i.e. tall but thin i.e. do not need 36" trousers just because your inside leg is 33" etc.

5 mins in M & S is my limit.
