This isn't a mis-keyed titled thread about the best gear for Towing a caravan before you lot start...
I am embarking on a new years fitness regime and am considering joining a rowing club, and was wondering what does one wear to row these days? I'm not sure the mc hammer tracksuit bottoms and hoodie is going cut it (not in a fashion sense, but in a practicality perspective), any spraytop recommendations?

You need the following;

Good pair of rowing gloves, shorts, preferably reasonably tight fitting cos snagging them on the seat as it slides is a tad un-cool! Two tops, very light t-shirt and a warmer top. Speak to the club about shoes. A decent pair of trainers should be fine although depends on the boat as to whats best.

Get deep heat or tiger balm, if you have not rowed, you will need it!

Also, most decent rowing clubs will supplement rowing with weights, running and possibly cross training. Worth doing as rowing can be demanding. Also, technique is vital to get right. A bad technique can lead to some serious problems with joints so make sure you get it right. They will show you but pay close attention!

Having said all that, nothing like rowing to get you fit and its great fun. If you decide to go for sculling (rowing alone) try to go with at least one other person, preferably one who is a little better than you to push yourself.

Firstly check about the weight limits laugh

A note was left for me at Fitness First a few years ago as my name was at the top of all the times in the rowing league stuck on the wall, asking if I would be interested in trying for a rowing team at Orton Mere.

So off I speak to a guy at work who rows regularly and I was basically told to lose 2 stone as I was too heavy for the boat.

Best to check to save any embarrassment

Dave!
