Standing Orders - please enlighten me!
Discussion
I'm a bit lost as I've somehow managed to make it this far without having to ever set up a standing order manually. We're currently trying to get Mrs K's ex to set up his child support payments via standing order as he's continually mucked her about when paying via cash. However not having set one up myself before I only know what people have told me about setting it up.
Having paid people via direct debit, and from what people have told me, I know that you need the recipient's:
Account number
Sort code
Bank name (ie Natwest, Abbey, etc)
Branch address
However the chap has just texted me saying he needs the 3 digit security code off the back of her bank card as well - obviously this has rung alarm bells as you need the security code to make payments but I've never heard of it being needed to RECEIVE payments.
Is this right? The guy is a useless twunt but not malicious, however Mrs K insists that I give him too much credit and was somewhat edgy about giving him our details at all (until I assured her that with the details supplied, they couldn't be used to take money out of our account - only paying in. I seem to remember Clarkson had something to do with this a while ago and ended up printing his details in the paper to prove it, though I can't remember the outcome!)
I don't intend to give him the security code (unless it actually is required?) but what else do I need to know?
Thanks in advance.

Expect some fraud in the near future if you give that away.
All you need is SC, Acc Number, Name.
Hmm... just as I suspected.
Nice to know he intends to steal money from us at some point in the future, in addition to not seeing his 5 month old child in the last 3 months (continually saying it's very important, but having a headache or migraine every time we are available).
And over Christmas he said he HAD to see him and it was extremely important to him, but when we decided after some to-ing and fro-ing to cancel our own plans that day to allow it (seeing as it meant so much), he said he couldn't make it as he had the work Christmas party to go to.
Nice chap who's clearly got his priorities in order.

He was defrauded. Someone used his details and a forged signature to set up a direct debit instruction to a charity.Clicky
This bloke asking for the card security code is clearly dodgy; if I were you I'd open a "basic bank account" with your bank, and use that to receive the payments. As soon as they turn up, transfer the money into your current account so the basic account is normally empty. Paranoid, perhaps - but that way, if he does try something dodgy, you limit your exposure.
