I recall seeing a link to such a site on PH recently. Basically you put up the price you want to pay, people post their designs and you select the winner and pay up.

LuckyP set up a competition on 99designs, it's pretty good IMO, you need to offer a half decent prize, say $200, and pre-pay the website, so the designers know they're going to get paid.

On DigitalPoint you'll get a good dozen or so professional logos to choose from and you only have to offer $30-odd. No pre-payment either.

Not all true, I've earnt $Ks on DP. There is some talented designers on there aswell as numptys using mspaint.

Because I work in the advertising industry working for Blue Chip Clients as a Graphic Designer for 15 years and 99% of the work from that website are done by amateurs at best.

Just because it costs f-all doesn't mean its bad. My wifes company is sub 100k T/O this is ideal for her.

You can pay alot of money for a swish logo and branding, but you might get 90% of the job for sod-all. I wouldn't be that dismissive.

I'm a salesman. 18 years of experience overall in IT, 12 years New Business sales (proper building a business stuff) in IT solutions.

I count one of the worlds biggest ad agencies as a client and have worked for 2 firms who have been through multi Million $ corporate rebranding exercises, one of those $30M. The other $50m.

I know we need agencies and marketing but its all a black art. Just because it costs alot doesn't make it any good.

Paying large sums for any design work means jack st. My first employment in graphics saw me working on corporate branding for several multinationals despite having the sum total of sod all experience and accepting a wage of £25 a week just to get my foot in the door.

My wife is still in the trade and does virtually all UK design work for similar or larger companies. The clients believe they have a team of 25+ dedicated staff completing their work, in reality it's my wife and a part time artworker.
