It sure is.

Stop destroying the world's 'lungs' and we will be in a much better shape!

The fact that there are too many Homo Sapiens is to the detriment of pretty much all other species on the planet, animal, vegetable or insect.

I think the world would be a better balanced place with half the humans on it.

Of course, but quite how much and whether it's to a dangerous degree I couldn't say.

I think the 'elephant in the room' in the whole green debate has only just begun to receive wider credence; I hate to give 'credit' to Jonathan Porridge [sp], but he is correct when he says that, in future, population control will need to be considered as part of an overal global environmental policy. In hsort, there's too many humans on the planet - see how crowded the roads are! biggrin

The above also leads us to a very uncomfortable truth - is all aid in drough regions doomed to failure? If the land is barren and can't support the extant population, aside from pure humanitarian considerations where's the real logic in pouring in aid in the form of better healthcare? Google for 'Malthusian' theory...

I am pretty convinced we have had an impact. Holes in the O-zone layer etc. I realise that this is not that popular a view on this website however. I think that global warming is a natural occurance but I think we may have accelerated it.

yes I heard that bit on the radio the other day and was pleased that someone had the guts to say it loud. Not only do we increase our population at an alarming rate, each human needs a lot of resources to keep it going in our modern world. This can't go on like this, we will end up as the biggest feast for some bacteria at some point.

Learned about it in A level geog and have viewed charitable gifts to starving africans in a different light ever since.

I wonder if they still teach it or whether it is considered "evil" in today's lefty schools?

Of course we do but the question is by how much.

Nevermind, if you pay more & more tax money to the government they'll make it all ok.

I do, but nowhere what is being advertised.

Rather than taxing the st out of us to redecorate their second homes, MPs could do something a bit more sensible like putting forward REAL green policies.

Don't i sound like the tree hugger.

To expand on this - and as you say, it's not a popular theme - as someone who'se spent a bit of time in various bits of Aftrica and has friends with a lot of experience of the continent, I'd say the other grave risk with aid is that it actually fuels corruption in many cases.

A lot of aid is snatched by those who least need it and ends up lining the pockets of fat officals or, worse still, paying the way for the bd warlords that help keep the rest of the populace in poverty and terror. An excellent read on the subjest is "Blood River", a factual contemporary account of some nutter journo who retraces Stanley's trip down the Congo is a real eye openeer for those who 'think' they know.

Yes I think the climate is changing, but not purely because of carbon dioxide.

In fact...the Ozone hole has been repairing. It's been getting smaller, and they reckon by 2020 or something (IIRC) that the hole will be completely repaired.
