Discussion
Currently having a debate in the office whether it's a good opportunity to take a punt in LLOY, RBS and BARC shares. None of us have any expereience to speak of so wondering what the general consensus is of the PH masses. We're only talking relatively modest outlays here say £500 - £1,000 on each....

Money to lose? Then fine, take a GAMBLE.
Can't afford to lose the money? DON'T GAMBLE.
Better off spanking a load on some sporting events. Leave the share dealing to the experts in my view. But, then again, this might explain why traders and bankers are considerably richer than me!
I think you missed that boat...Can't afford to lose the money? DON'T GAMBLE.

Made £166 on £1500.
Should have left the LLOY where it was would have made another £100.

im no expert
but i would say the time to strike is now. go across all the big banks. providing they dont bottom out when the economy picks up in the distant furture you should make a killing. tbh though im looking at gold. will always keep its value.

Dear Internet,
Please tell me how to invest my money, as I'd rather listen to the advise of 100 random people I don't know than do something sensible with it.

Yep then buy £30 worth of a single share not unit trust & not be aware of the buying & selling costs....Dear Internet,

Anyone here who is going to invest in any equity be aware investing in a single stock is the most risky thing you can do basically as it can go bust.
If you bought say a FTSE/any stock market tracker then its based upon x qty of companies there is zero chance that every company will go bust.
If you buy a Unit trust in say financial services its far less risky than individual stock as its far less likely the entire financial services will be worth £0.
Finally if you only have £30 to gamble sorry you cannot invest the minimum to invest is £50 and with that I'd buy a unit trust the buying /selling/mgt of the fund is taken into accont by the Unit trust price.
Honestly though if your wanting to buy a single stock you really need to be buying a minimum of £1k in a single stock - remember with buying & selling costs the return you'd have to make would have to be so large any smaller amount it would take a miracle for it to happen.
Good luck but given what everyone has posted so far DON'T do it - you all need to read up a hell of a lot about all the potential investment vehicles the pitfalls the fees and of course if you make >£9.5k capital gains OR receive dividends... then your going to have to start filling out self assesment forms and once they start thats it for life... So again if your only playing with tiddly sums just dont bother put them into P Bonds instead.
property is finished for 10 years..
rents are falling as people leave the country..
gold is being ramped so a bubble that will eventually burst...
growth in shares stagnant...
inflation is greater than bank interest rates so any savings you have are being eroded...
the pound is tanking...
take a leaf out of the book of gordonomics...get into massive debt and let your offspring deal with it..or get a job as a banker or politician neither are ever accountable for their mistakes...
