Snowploughs in the South...../ gritting and stockpiles...

Came down the A34 earlier, just having been reopened by snowploughs.

Never thought I'd see them needed in this part of the UK (Berks/Wilts area)

Just like to say, well done highways agency staff that man the vehicles. Road was only closed for a short period despite seriously heavy snow (6 inches in half an hour or so I understand).

So to those guys out driving the snow ploughs/gritters, Bloody well done guys.

To the council/local authority twunts planning the 'emergency response' and stock levels of rock salt, seriously guys, its only been a few weeks of cold weather, and your panicing about running out...? GET A FEKIN GRIP and do your job PROPERLY!!!!! We havent seen the ice age coming, its just a bit nippy and a few inches of snow FFS...

Youre right, at the end of the day the drivers are doing their best and Im sure they probably get some flack.

I used to live in Bicester and that A34 is a real pain because one stretch can be clear because its low down and the other covered cos its high. I remember once see trucks sliding backwards because they could get up the hills (I think that was happening today).

Scary stuff.

Love that advert too, but if you have ever owned a beetle you would know that the driver would have died from hypothermia before getting to the snow plough

Yesterday I saw a council worker pushing his rubbish cart along the pavement prodding at various lumps of snow with his litter picker. Bear in mind the pavement was about four inches deep in packed snow and ice it was a fairly futile exercise...

You can just imagine back at Council HQ some jobsworth looking at the rota and saying "Thursday Bob picks litter off the pavements". The fact that the pavements and any litter are completely covered up was irrelevant! Bob would have been better employed shovelling and grit spreading but I suspect that would require a large number of meetings, union consultations and triplicate paper work...

Passed 2 trucks one the A34 yesterday, one was ploughing and the other was spraying brine and again today i followed another truck that was gritting. So they are definately out there.
