Freezing food

I guess it varies on the type of food but how long should you keep a frozen food for.

Most items say 'use within one month if frozen'.

Any ideas?

Depends on what it is and the temperature of your freezer (see 'star rating').

In the 'freezer' bit in a fridge, a month at most.

But if you have a proper freezer (i.e. -18°C) three months is pretty normal and, like 'use by' dates, quite conservative. I've eaten things frozen for much longer than that.

Maybe a year?

Food safety type bods would say a month.

surely once it's in there its state does not change, unless freezer defrosts or food becomes uncovered or gets freezer burn.
