MC018 eBay Listing Removed: Keyword Spamming

About 30 mins left to run on my auction and they do this to me because the listing was "Men's XXX XXX Watch - Boxed As New"

No, it is boxed as it was when it was new, with all paperwork and international cards etc. There were detailed pictures, and a very detailed description.

So it is boxed as new.

To add, why couldnt they have just removed the 'as new' part then if they didnt like it? They wont refund insertion fee either, not that it is too much.

Auction was running for minutes off 7 days and they did it at the last minute. Bunch of f'king idiots - no wonder less and less people are using it.

have to disagree with that, if i was selling something to you that could be described as "as new" but i lied and said it was new you would be pretty annoyed when you found out it was actually used

Like when you search for an Evo, and it comes back with
Mitsubish charisma, not evo, VR4, lancer, but a charisma....Label it as it is

I can understand that as keyword spamming, but the fact remains it is boxed as new. Cheaper than it would be if it was new. If i wanted a watch cheaper than new but boxed as new i would type in rolex boxed as new - as an example.

If id have put Rolex NOT Tag, Omega, IWC etc etc then fair enough but I had legitimately described it.

As new, implies something same as mint, grade A etc, in that although the object is second hand/ being re sold it is in a condition that you wouldn't know it had been previously owned, Maybe E-bay should allow these as drop down selections within the intial description

You summed that up perfectly.

If i was buying something that was described as as new i would expect it to be 2nd hand but not being able to tell the difference between that and a new product of the same model. Seems easy enough to understand from my point of view.

There wasn't a mark on it, worn a couple of times for best. Yes, strictly speaking it was 'used' but it was in the same condition as it was when it was new. If id have put new, id have been lying so i couldnt really win. Think I will keep it.

It's a complete lottery whether you get caught for keyword spamming. And ffs, in your example you're just using a well used term.

"As new" is too subjective. I figure the problem is that too many people have abused the claim "as new" in the past.

Don't use ebay but I have seen similar complaints from other disgruntled PHers about them using 'As new' on there.

Tell you what - describe it as 'better than half price'. This seems to be the latest 'admen' jingo speak bks expression as it's now present in more than half of all fecking adverts and I find it rather fecking irritating.

Agree that Ebay should have just told you to remove that term rather than cancel the auction.

Ebay is pretty crude and mostly unregulated. But you can still get (probably lifted) stuff very cheap. Just need to buy using a credit card and you're sorted.

not being a pedant. something is either New, or its used. As he's used 'new' in the title to describe something that is used, anyone searching far a real 'new' watch like yours is going to be presented with one thats second hand instead. Why cant you see that this is mis describing what hes selling? Think like a lawyer for just a minute, and you'll see why your advert was in breach of their rules on the subject.

If its been used, its not new. Simple as. If I bought a car from a dealership, but immidiatly decided to sell it, would you say "hey no worries its just 'as new' so I'll give you what you want for it", or would yu consider it to be a used car?

The answer is its a used car. Second hand. Previously owned.

Strange then that it's been a common term used by millions of people to describe something that is not new, but is in new condition. People seem to have understood the term up until now. Perhaps we need to be dumbed down even more?

I was selling a car on e-bay- had the listing removed twice. Can't remember the phrase they didn't like but they thought I was trying to get round paying the fees. I wasn't and someone who saw the car on e-bay bought it anyway, so they lost the fees I was going to pay. Their loss, idiots.
