I always found a heavy duty plastic sack (for coal or building materials) was a great improvised sledge and would easily out run most things

Fertilizer bag was all we ever used when I was a kid, dad did make us a wooden sledge but it was too heavy and sunk through the snow.

When we were kids, we used to use the gas board barriers. You could bend them in half so you had something to grab onto. Pretty skinny profile, if you were any good I would imagine you could use it like a snowboard. Obviously not advocating stealing gas barriers!

I've used thoses before. There was 3 of us on it but as they don't have runners to keep you straight, we ended up going down backwards

Shovel, but shorten the handle, otherwise if you stop quick the handle comes up and hits you in the face.

On our local "Piste" the award for fastest man/woman/child of the day clearly went to the inflatable Lilo family, fastest accelerating, best handling & outright straight line speed out of all of the equipment on display on the hardpack.

I'm off to the local Lilo shop to get one today, the type with the londitudinal tubes was the best, the furry pocketed variety clearly slowed down in soft powder. If you can find the shiny vinyl (slightly retro) type your on to a winner. I'd suggest to slightly overinflate for best performance & apply some ski wax or pledge to the running surfaces for additional speed.

Bugatti Veyron bonnet, really light & you can get 3 people on it. They're usually a crap colour though, try & get one in bare carbon fibre

I was easily King of the Mountain on Friday with a bit of plastic sheeting I found. It's the type that has lines/ridges running along it. Was much quicker than the black bin bag type options. It did mean pretty much going down face first though, but as long as your careful you avoid too much damage to the important bits.
