What do you do when you are unemployed?

play XBOX 360, drink, ride around looking at new bikes I want and I'm gonna get when I sell mine, [the last two are never done together lol]
basically whatever pops into my head.
Like I feel like going into next town over to look at an audi, perhaps get something to eat somewere I havnt been before [will take some searching] and strip my bike apart and fiddle and tweak and fix and clean and fettle
then In the afternoon look for a job, then after than put the bike back together heh.

Given that I'm now into my fifth month of enforced idleness (god the IT contract market is s
t right now), and this after a three-monther at the end of 2007, I consider myself somewhat of an expert at doing nothing.
Apart from the aforementioned masturbation, I have a few golden rules that I stick to to try to maintain some kind of structure in my life.
1) Up at 6:30 every morning, either get out on the bike or do some weights. Both to keep the discipline of getting up for work and to try to avoid the almost inevitable weight gain.
2) 9am I am at my computer, working (ie applying for jobs, chasing up agents, doing CBT or otherwise keeping skills up to date). For how long depends in what I'm doing and how much tailoring my CV needs for the jobs but I would expect to be there most of the morning at least.
3) Get out of the house in the afternoon. Normally I'll go and play golf, but I might pop to the shops or just go out for a walk.
4) Don't drink on a week night. It's far too easy to fall into the drinking every night routine - rule (1) helps with this.
The important thing for me is to make sure that I have as normal a week as I can - maintain that Monday-Friday, getting up and working feeling. Related to this I find it helps to have specific, time-limited goals (right now I am trying to get round the local 9-hole course in under 40, get the Pathetique up to 130bpm, and get myself under 15% body fat for example). Again it's all part of imposing discipline and not letting the days just drift by.
