So in a fit of madness I volunteered to cook a nice meal on Sat and my "surprise" recipe requires the food to be cooked in banana leaves

I don't ever recall seeing these down the local Budgens or Tesco, any ideas where might sell them ? Am just outside London so I assume there must be Chinese supermarkets or cash-and-carry places nearby?

You can get them fresh or frozen from most Asian supermarkets.

Thailand-UK shows ANA Oriental Supermarket, Reading; SeeWoo, Reading; and Thai & Far Eastern Foods, Maidenhead as stocking fresh and frozen. Guess it depends on where you are!

slightly off topic, but are you saying that you could get high smoking banana skins?

The leaves will be there purely to hold the ingredients together and "steam" them as they cook. An old pair of socks or a copy of the Radio Times will do just fine as a substitue.

NNTTM.

That stands for no need to thank me, BTW.

That stands for by the way, etc.

That stands for et cetera, FWIW.

and so on.
