We never had separate assemblies in my day? what is the problem.

We only had a couple of non christian kids at our school, and they attended assemblies just like the rest of us. They didn't join in with the hymn singing or the prayers (but to be fair, neither did a lot of us so called christians!) I don;t recall them having specific prayer time though.

No what they should do is fund their own Muslim schools if this is the regime they want. This is a Christian country, not a Muslim one, and therefore assemblies should reflect that. RE is the vehicle to cover other faiths.

How stupid is this rule that there has to be 1 act of worship at school per day!! In this multicultural day......these kind of requirements are what's causing problems.

Religion should not be brought into schools! Religion is something done privately and should not be mixed with State!

Religion is a personal thing. It should be practiced at home, church, chapel, mosque etc... There is no place for religion in schools, apart from in RE where the "facts" (beliefs, main characters, holy days, festivals etc...) of the major world religions should be taught. Atheism / agnosticism should get a mention too.

Probably not as gently as it should be, I almost posted keep religion out of schools myself, but the Anglican and Roman Catholic Church pump an awful lot of money and effort in to the British Education system.

IMO a lot of the better (free) education comes from these schools, despite the religious angle on things. Maybe the Muslim council of GB should put up some of its own cash, or shut up.

It annoys me more that no other non-native religious group complain so vocally, why don't the other religions get so offended that they are not dominant?

I read about it elsewhere and it sounded like she might have engineered her own departure. She was off wprk most of last year and resigned just as she was due to make a phased return.

I dont know if 'multicultural' means lumping everybody in together and ignoring differences, or dividing people up into ghettos where they live seperately.

The more you make a fuss about the different religions, the more you create divisions and problems.

You don't see the irony of "This is a Christian country, not a Muslim one, and therefore assemblies should reflect that", and then moving on to say lefties are trying to mould society? You don't see religion doing the very same thing?
