The Sharpe TV series jumped about the first 4 books. Give them a read. http://www.bernardcornwell.net/index2.cfm?page=1&a...

Why have we demoted Lt Col Sharpe back to major? We not including Waterloo?
Sharpe is better, as there's more - and he kicks ass
Needed more Hornblower films, and significant events in them - like Copenhagon, Nile or Trafalgar. Sharpe had siginificant historical events, Talavera, Badajoz (sp?), Waterloo etc etc

Sharpe had Obadiah Hakeswill,

played by the superb Pete Postlethwaite.
That's why it wins.
Saw him in a bar in Perth WA once. I went over and said "Hello Pete. Just wanted to tell you I thought you were brilliant in Sharpe."
