A Boris Johnson Gem
Discussion
"This budget is substantially unchanged and is what I believe is demanded by the times," said the mayor. "London faces a recession exacerbated by government wastefulness and in particular by the level of indebtedness.
"We now have the fresh challenge of government ministers asserting that this is going to be the worst recession in 100 years. I do not believe that to be true and I believe that Ed Balls is aptly named."

He comes across like a bit of a buffoon, but I cant help but like him, I think he's great.
He said a classic the other day - he was being questioned by Kieth Vaz in Parliament about the arrest of Damian Green and the conversation went something like this....
BoJo: "I was talking to Damian...sorry, Mr Green on my mobile phone blah blah blah.."
KV: "Was this in your office"
Bojo: "yes"
KV: "Was Mr Green with you at the time?"
Bojo: "I see little point in using my mobile phone if he was with me at the time"
Come on Vaz, stay in the room, son.

Love the way he just says it as it is!
We all know about Liverpool, but here is upsetting Portsmouth and Papua New Guinea

Boris on Portsmouth said:
"one of the most depressed towns in Southern England, a place that is arguably too full of drugs, obesity, underachievement and Labour MPs"
Boris on Papua New Guinea said:
a 2006 column likening Tory leadership disputes to "Papua New Guinea-style orgies of cannibalism and chief-killing" was criticised in Papua New Guinea. The nation's High Commissioner invited him to visit the country and see for himself, while remarking that his comments might mean he was refused a visa. Johnson suggested he would add Papua New Guinea to his global apology itinerary, and said he was sure the people there "lived lives of blameless bourgeois domesticity like the rest of us". His defence was conclusive: "My remarks were inspired by a Time Life book I have which does indeed show relatively recent photos of Papua New Guinean tribes engaged in warfare, and I'm fairly certain that cannibalism was involved."

Whilst Boris may choose to play the bufoon, he is in fact an extremely clever and astute politition.
Agreed. I hope he stays as charmingly straight talking as he appears. He's be caught doing something contrary to what he's advising (wearing a cycle helmet for example) and basically says "yep, I'm in the wrong", not putting some huge amount of spin on it to make it look OK.Go BoJo.
