ASDA & Carrier bags

Right then first things first.

I know I shouldn't really be shopping at ASDA but its right round the corner from the house, and sometimes when you just need a few things, its sooo convienient.

But its not any more......

Today they have decided they will no longer be giving out free carrier bags. If you want a bag you have to buy a "bag for life" one or use your own.

Its ridiculous, the amount of people i saw today struggling out with arms full of shopping to avoid buying a bag.

Then I overheard a assistant speaking to her supervisor "Its a brilliant idea this, once the press get hold of it we'll be able to do no wrong in their eyes and the environmetalists will love us, by the end of the week everyone wil be doing it"

Anyway once i'd got my basket full of items I wanted I walked out with it (after paying - self service) and put the basket in the boot.

That'll learn em.

What am i supposed to put the cat litter in now for transportation to the wheelie bin. Im reusing my bags for poop.

At least at Sainsbury's you can still get the free ones if you ask (and many of the checkout people can't be bothered and just leave them out for you anyway)

I have tried to avoid Marks & Spencer's ever since they brought out a similar policy

Like your thinking with the basket, i may try that until you have to start paying to release the baskets.

Tesco still give you free bags and i enjoy standing at the end of the till asking for more bags in a loud voice continually after putting just one or two items in them, and saying to the assistant that i would be a good idea to have a bag rail at the end of the conveyor so that i can take what i need.

I swear on all that is ASDA that they were the exact words that came out of her mouth.

Granted they add a nice bit to the story but if i wanted to make things up i could have gone with the old chestnut that "I loaded a months worth of shopping onto the checkout let her put it all through and then when she asked for my money and wouldn't give me FREE BAGS I just told her to stick it and walked out"

But I decided not too.

Given that you shop by car, I keep 3 hard plastic box's (Sainsburys) in the boot, take one in. Infact you take it into Sainsburys, they give you 1p off whatever you buy.

Just put the fking bags out, scan the stuff and take my fking money. Don't you fking dare think you have enough intelligence to know how many bags I need, if you did you wouldn't be behind a fking till I'll decide how many bags I need, not you.

Yup, that's what I use carrier bags for (well, dog poop actually). I've had to buy a roll of pedal bin liners to cover the times I run out of carrier bags.

I've only ever got told by checkout staff once that I should be reusing my carrier bags. So I told them I was, and how, in great detail until they looked uncomfortable.

ASDA carrier bags are st anyway. fk knows what they're made of but I've passed stronger stools after a vindaloo and Stella night.

Still free bags at Sainsburys. It does make me wonder however. Why dont the Glubberment get onto the backs of the poxy food manufacturers and insist they package there crap in smaller boxes.

And I guess it is stealing the basket as i'm a person with some common sense. But..... at no point are you asked to pay for the basket, no-where in the store does it tell you that the baskets are not to be taken home, or even out of the store. So how on earth am I meant to know that these baskets have not replaced the carrier bags of old??

Maybe you could put the used cat litter in there and take it back....


I think there may be some logistical issues to work out in this plan...

they'll all change their tune once they realise they still have pallets full of free bags using up precious storage space.i like the thinking with the basket if you use it all the time from now on.you could even go for your own trolley for the big shop

But..... at no point are you asked to pay for the basket, no-where in the store does it tell you that the baskets are not to be taken home, or even out of the store. Refuse to use that 'self service' tosh. Might as well get the tossers to eat the food as well
